The circumference of a circle divided by its diameter always may be written as pi:

[tex] \frac{c}{d}= \pi [/tex]

Pi itself is close to 3.14; keep in mind pi is an irrational number, so it may never be equal to a number written in decimal form.

Also, pi is equal to c/d, but that doesn't mean that's the way pi is defined.
