To understand this, we will need to go back to Newton's 2nd law of motion, which is the equation F = ma. (usually) A car is much heavier than a wheelbarrow, and thus more massive. This means that from our equation, to achieve the same rate of acceleration, more force is required to be acted upon the car than for the wheelbarrow, therefore making it more difficult to push.
