In this case we can use the pythagorical theorem to find the distance so:

[tex]x^2=42^2+35^2[/tex]

and we solve for x so:

[tex]\begin{gathered} x=\sqrt{1764+1225} \\ x=\sqrt[]{2989} \\ x=54.67 \end{gathered}[/tex]

so he is at 54.67 miles
