The digestive system is related to our diet in the sense that this is a specialized organ whose cells known as cylindrical cells, secrete a juice (gastric juice; which is possible because of the gene expression that allows these cells to develop the necessary proteins) that catabolizes the food to acquire nutrients such as glucose from carbohydrates and eventually performs cellular respiration.
