The interphase is divided into 3 subphases: G1, S and G2 and then gives rise to mitosis.
First occurs the G1 phase where the cell doubles its size and increases the number of organelles, enzymes and other molecules, then occurs the S phase where the genetic material such as DNA and its associated proteins such as histones are duplicated. Finally, the G2 phase occurs where the cell begins to prepare for mitosis and the chromosomes begin to condense.
