1/4x + y = 1 (a)

3/2x - y = 4/3 (b)

Solve (a) for y:

y= 1-1/4x

Replace y in (b)

3/2x- (1-1/4x)= 4/3

3/2x-1+1/4x = 4/3

Combine like terms

7/4x = 4/3+1

7/4x = 7/3

x= 7/3 / (7/4)

x= 4/3

Replace x on any equation, for example (a) and solve for y

1/4x + y = 1

1/4 (4/3) + y =1

1/3+y = 1

y= 1-1/3

y= 2/3
