We have a d=40% discount on a race car.

The list price is L=$85.99.

We can calculate the net price P as:

[tex]P=L-D=85.99-0.4\cdot85.99=85.99-34.40=51.59[/tex]

The net price is $51.59.

NOTE: we could have also calculated as (100-40)%=60% of the list price and get the same result.
