Microtubules are structures composed of proteins, and they can be used as structural components when they are in the cytoskeleton. Or as transport components in mitosis and meiosis, since the cells use microtubules to transport the chromosomes during reproductive processes; without them, the metaphase could not take place. This applies to both types of cells (animal and plant cells)
