A kernel of popcorn contains a small amount of water and when heated the popcorn pops. How can you explain this to someone?

Respuesta :

The small amount of water is evaporated and turned in to steam. Due to this expansion, pressure builds up inside of the kernel, and once that pressure is of a large enough magnitude, the kernel "pops", allowing for the steam to escape. Thus, a piece of popcorn is formed.
