A mosquito-borne parasitic infection spread by Anopheles mosquitoes is known as malaria. Malaria is caused by the protozoan parasite known as Plasmodium. It is a single-celled parasite, which proliferates in the RBCs of humans as well as in the intestine of mosquito. Malaria in humans is caused by four distinct species of Plasmodium, that is, P. malariae, P.falciparum, P.vivax, and P.ovale.
