The formula of a distance between two points:

[tex]d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}[/tex]

We have:

[tex]C(-6,\ 5)\to x_1=-6,\ y_1=5\\D(-3,\ 1)\to x_2=-3,\ y_2=1[/tex]

substitute:

[tex]d=\sqrt{(-3-(-6))^2+(1-5)^2}=\sqrt{3^2+(-4)^2}=\sqrt{9+16}=\sqrt{25}=5[/tex]

Answer: 5 units.
