in order to isolate x, subtract 4y from both sides.

2x + 4y - (4y) = 6 - (4y)
2x = 6 - 4y

now, divide each side by 2 (or multiply by 1/2)

(1/2) * (2x) = (1/2) * (6-4y)
x = 3 - 2y

now that x is the only variable on the left side of the equation, you’ve successfully isolated x.
