I believe the gametes are to male and female reproductive cells as Zygotes are to human "blueprints".
Gamete are the cells containing only one set of dissimilar chromosomes, or half the genetic materials necessary to form a complete organisms. They are formed through meiosis, in which the cell undergoes two fission. The gametes combine during the process of fertilization to form a zygote which then undergoes multiple cell divisions and differentiation to form an embryo.
