Cidofovir (structure shown) is an antiviral medication for the treatment of
cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in patients with AIDS that suppresses CMV
replication by selective inhibition of viral DNA synthesis. Cidofovir contains the
nucleoside cytidine.
