Muscles work in pairs because:
1. A muscle only contracts, it does not stretch itself out again.
2. A stretched muscle cannot contract again by itself.
3. Actin is found in one muscle of the pair, and myosin in the other.
4. The paired muscles are connected by tendons to each other.
